Ride1Up is one of several popular producers of electric bicycles in North America. The LMT’D model is a high-performance electric bike. Considering the components in this bike, you really get a lot for your money. The motor is a powerful 750-watt geared hub variety producing a very high 95 Nm of torque. There aren’t many popular electric bikes that include a motor of this power.
This is considered a class 3 bike in the US, with a top pedal assist speed of 28 mph and a top throttle speed of 20 mph. The pedal assist system of e-bikes functions based on the feedback of a sensor. Many e-bikes have cadence sensors, which provide a fixed amount of assistance depending on the selected assist level. The other type of sensor is called a torque sensor. In this scenario, the level of assistance is dynamic and is determined by the amount of effort the biker provides. In other words, more rider effort causes the motor to provide more assistance. The LMT’D electric bike has a torque sensor. Ride1Up claims that torque sensors provide a more natural ride, feeling comparable to a regular bike. This makes sense, since the more effort produced by the rider, the more the motor dynamically assists.
The battery is a 14V x 48ah battery (672Wh) and the charger is 48V x 2a with an LED charging status indicator. As you might expect, the high-powered motor consumes more battery versus a less powerful motor. The resultant range (depending on a number of factors) could take a hit depending on the level of assist and is estimated to be 30-50 miles. However, that same power makes this a versatile bike, suitable for commuting, light recreation, and even some leisurely touring.
The water-resistant (IP-65 rated) frame comes in both step-over and step-through (for those with limited mobility) versions with an air suspension fork. There are two color options: Sandstone and Midnight Gray. The 2.2-inch handlebar-mounted color LCD screen displays multiple parameters including customizable pedal assist settings. The 2.4” tires are all-weather performance WTB textured. The removable battery includes theft protection and two included keys.
Mechanically, the bike comes with Tektro hydraulic brakes. The 8-speed shifter, derailleur, and cassette are all high-quality, made by Shimano. The handlebars are ST frame upright bars with ergonomic grips and left-side thumb throttle control. The LMT’D weight is 53 lbs with a typical weight capacity of 300 lbs.
